THAI CULINARY DELIGHTS 2019 AT DUSITD2 DAVAO
Cultural Heritage
Hello, there my dear readers!
I’m ecstatic to share to with you a delicious blog post featuring the arts and flavors of Thailand. On Friday, The Royal Thai Embassy in cooperation with the Tourism Authority of Thailand hosted the 2019 ‘Thai Culinary Delights’ at DusitD2 here in Davao City.
This event was made in celebration of the 70th Diplomatic Anniversary between the Republic of the Philippines and the Kingdom of Thailand and the first event of this kind to be held outside of Metro Manila.
There were three events held in the city in conjunction with the anniversary - the Friendship Golf Tournament in which I wasn’t able to attend, the Thai Culinary Delights and the Thai Film Festival 2019 held at SM City Davao.
The event was well attended by Philippine and Thailand dignitaries, members of diplomatic and consular corps as well as representatives from local politics and business, online and print media.
“We recognize that tourism has a very important role in building a relationship but also encouraging tourism stakeholders and operators to create joint tour programs and packages. The culture of Thailand never fails to capture the heart of the Filipinos. I’m proud to present to you the artistic cultural performance of world-renowned Siam Niramit dancers and the flavors of Thai Culinary Delights.” Said Kajornet Apichartrakul the Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand for Singapore and the Philippines.

To give us an authentic feel of the true flavors of Thailand, Thai master chefs traveled all the way from Thailand to show us how Thai cooking is done. It was even made fun with the participation of the audience shortly before dinner. Now I know how painstakingly Thai Taro in Sweet Coconut Milk was made.
You get to appreciate your food more if you know the story behind every savory dish you put on your plate.

True Flavors of Thailand
The mission of Thai government to promote Thai kitchen to the world has been very successful with years of staging Thai Culinary Delights. This year, I’m privileged to sample a few of the celebrated Thailand dishes as the event was held for the first time outside of Metro Manila.
Thai cuisine is known for its strong aromatic flavors with a spicy edge on it. Thai dishes also demonstrates intricacy in terms of preparing their ingredients hence each dish demonstrates character in terms of history, color, texture, aroma and rich flavor.
Now, let’s dig in …

The Thai Film Brother of the Year released last year was the feature film for the festival. Davaoenos get to watch it in two screenings, June 29 and 30 at SM City Cinema 1 for free. It's not every day I get to watch a Thai film so I made sure I get to enjoy it.
“SM Supermalls are a strong supporter of culture and the arts and we welcome every opportunity to host cultural celebration such as this. We would like to invite everyone to watch the film, Brother of the Year for free. Movies mirror culture. Films have the power to reach people, enrich perspective, stimulate dialogue and enhance understanding and appreciation of various world views. May this film not only entertain us all but also give us a foretaste of colorful and amazing Thai culture.” Said Russel Alaba, SM Supermalls AVP for Marketing in Mindanao.
Brother of the Year is a romantic comedy film starring Sunny Suwanmethanont, Urassaya Sperbund, Nichkhun and directed by Vithaya Thongyuyong. The movie is a story of sibling rivalry. Love and hate relationship between siblings. It's a film every Filipinos with siblings can relate. I laughed and cried watching this movie. It's a heart-warming film and I'm sure everyone enjoyed it.
