US Potato Safari 3 in Davao City: Cook-Off at Waterfront Insular Hotel
Hello there Ladies! Thank you for following my US Potato Safari 3 journey, please keep reading!
I wasn’t able to join the group for dinner at Cafe Uno, I had a prior commitment so I missed Chef Victor Barangan’s potato dishes. But I was early on the venue for our second day. Celebrity Chef Sandy Daza flew in from Manila for a cooking demonstration and I can’t miss it for the world.
It’s surprising how he looked so intimidating on screen but when I finally met him in the flesh, he’s actually as welcoming as my grandma cooking Law-oy for dinner. Chef Sandy is one of the known figures in the culinary scene in the country, his credentials attached to his bio says it all. He’s also one of the key figures of US Potato Board; hence, he’s here in Davao for a special US potato exhibition.

Chef Sandy prepared three recipes for the demonstration.
US Potato Baked Seafood
Mixed Sausages and Crispy US Potatoes
US Potato Beef Caldereta
It was quiet an intimate cooking demo set-up and he was cracking jokes, sharing his years of cooking experience and wisdom in between. I’m sharing you two;
1. ‘The bigger the bubbles, the more flavour escapes’ .... so ladies, when simmering, keep your flame down as much as possible.
2. ‘If it taste good to you, serve it’ .... yeah, right!We all enjoyed these dishes at lunch .... here;

Since he finished the demo early, we took advantage of
his spare time consulting for our planned recipe for the cook-off. Note: consultation was free (hahaha) so lucky, we are. We shared
what’s on our list, discuss possibilities but in the end honour his suggestion. He’s the pro
after all. He flew in from Manila in the morning and went back shortly after the demo. We're so honored to have met you, Chef! Please keep reading to know what went down at the cook-off.
